A Recommended Place to Stay

Boerne, Texas. A lovely place to visit. But how would you pronounce it? It doesn't look easy to pronounce, but we were thinking maybe like "Burn" or like "Bow-urn". But apparently, it's pronounced like "Bernie". It was originally settled by German immigrants, who named the town. In German, the pronunciation winds up being close to "Burn-uh".
We arrived for St. Patrick's day, so we started a pub crawl around the couple of blocks of downtown. We were
unfortunately very lacking in our green clothes though. The beer was pretty good, but we weren't able to find a
really great Reuben Sandwich unfortunately. We'll have to make some when we get home.

Late the next morning, we toured some caves, as Boerne has some great access to caves carved out by the Guadalupe
River and Balcones Fault Line. We started with Cave Without a Name, which reminded us of Carlsbad Caverns due to all
of the decorations on the wall.
By far Sara's favorite thing about the cave was a Tri-colored Bat that had roosted just under one of the stairways
into the cave.

Our second cave tour was at Cascade Caverns, which has a friendly mascot out front.

The bats were everywhere in this cave! And it had some interesting features as well, though didn't have as much
decoration.

Cascade Caverns sported a cave formation that we haven't seen before: Solution Domes. These domes were formed while
the cave was flooded with water. The water currents in the cave lead to circular patterns being weathered into
the ceiling, drilling deeper over time as layers of limestone were dissolved.

Cascade Caverns even has an endemic type of salamander that we were able to catch a glimpse of.
From Boerne, TX, we continued east to see if we could escape Texas and continue heading toward the eastern coast.
